Human Rights and Health

In this months blog and to support Human Rights Day on the 10th December 2021, team practitioner Maria Franklin talks about how human rights and health are linked:

The Human Rights Act contains the rights originally listed in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The ECHR was drafted after the Second World War by the Council of Europe to protect the human rights and political freedoms of the people of Europe.

We often think how this might apply to others, but starting with ourselves and how we treat and speak to ourselves can be quite revealing.

The Act prohibits ill-treatment, but how often do we berate and blame ourselves for the things that we do, or don’t do, rather than be kind and tolerant and encourage ourselves to understand our behaviour and do things differently next time.

The Act says that no-one may ever be enslaved or made to work and be unable to leave, but how often do we force ourselves to stick at something that causes us stress, or find it hard to stand up to someone who is intimidating. How difficult is it to make a change in troubled circumstances.

The Act also embraces the right to Freedom of Expression. We are entitled to our own opinions, as well as having the right to express them without interference from any public body. How often do we really listen to other people’s views and opinions and try to truly understand why and how they have developed their views. How often do we listen to our own body and conscience and question our own beliefs and opinions and be prepared to change them if appropriate.

Questioning ourselves and protecting our own rights and responsibilities is a good place to start understanding what our human rights really mean. By understanding who we really are, and being able to confidently stand in our own truth is probably the greatest gift we can give ourselves and others.

Often the beliefs, judgements and attitudes we live by are based on old inherited or taught patterns that are not our own. Understanding and clearing these often subconscious or unconscious programs can open the way for us to assert our true selves and live consciously with our human rights.

Why not get in touch to find out how we can use Kinesiology and Body Field information to help you understand and unpick these old patterns and grow into feeling grounded and comfortable in your true self.
