Service Information
What is the EMMETT Technique?
The EMMETT Technique is a unique form of body therapy. It is a safe and simple muscle release therapy which is used to address pain and discomfort and improve movement restrictions.
It is a method that uses light finger pressure at specific locations to initiate the gentle release of tension in many problem areas such as neck, shoulder and back and results are usually immediate. These specific points, referred to as “EMMETT points”, are not the same as traditional trigger points or acupressure points or any other points described in any other therapy. It can be a standalone treatment or combined with other techniques.
The EMMETT Therapist is skilled in the art of applying:
the right amount of pressure
in the right direction
for the right amount of time
It is this combination of elements, unique to each individual, which creates the desired physical change which is often immediate.
Although often combined with other techniques, the EMMETT Technique is an efficient and effective therapy on its own. It is non-invasive and involves no drugs, massage oils, manipulations or high velocity thrusts. Emmett Technique can also be used as a relaxing maintenance treatment.

Founder Ross Emmett
Ross Emmett, the founder of the EMMETT Technique, was born in Australia in 1945 and lives and works on its North East coast. He has been in clinical practice since 1981, treating over 100 clients a week and now travels throughout the world lecturing and holding seminars on his unique insights into bodywork. What is unique and unusual about the EMMETT Technique is that Ross developed it long before he had any formal bodywork training. Highly intuitive with incredible observational skills, his varied upbringing, experiences and interests, as well as his dyslexia have all, he believes, contributed to the therapy that is today The EMMETT Technique. Today Ross clinic is in Townsville. He works alongside, and has been referred to by over 70 doctors and medical professionals. Their respect for Ross ability and technique and his for theirs has developed into a close and long lasting working relationship where Ross opinions will often be sought before surgical intervention is considered. Through the support and respect of his medical colleagues Ross was one of the first massage therapists in Australia to be registered for medical rebates. In this association with the medical establishment he enjoys a truly unique situation for a complementary therapist. Ross brought his method to England in 2007. Since then his technique has gone global and courses are now run in over 20 countries around the world. More and more countries are hearing about EMMETT and inviting Ross to widen his travels. How does EMMETT work?
It is suggested that the EMMETT Technique may interact with the body as described in the science of Critical Point Analysis which identifies that... In any highly complex system there is a specific, critical point at which the smallest input will result in the greatest change For example a light touch on a small cog can halt the largest engine. The EMMETT Technique Therapist can be compared to a body electrician who has the knowledge to locate these critical points and re-set them with the correct stimulation. The stimulation is registered by the receivers nervous system and their brain responds by sending new instructions back to affect the physical state of the localized area. The result is often instantaneous physical change.
What Does an EMMETT Session Involve
Clients can be treated seated, standing or lying down, or sometimes a combination depending on what EMMETT moves are needed. The treatment can be applied directly to the skin or through clothing (light clothing is best). Sessions can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on whether EMMETT Technique is used alone. Longer sessions can be combined with Kinesiology and Nutrition
