Meditation for Health Day - October 4th

Meditation for Health Day - October 4th

At the Centre for Integral Health we offer a regular and varied programme of meditation and after attending various events in The Big Busk earlier in the year, I felt it would be of great value to the peoples of Shrewsbury to have a Big Meditation Day that was focussed on raising not only the awareness of meditation in its many different forms, but also the benefits and the providers of the different styles in our fair town. Plus it seemed like a great way to raise some money for charity as we did it.

In the last 30 years or so there has been a massive increase in the awareness of meditation as a practice and there are now groups and centres of meditation in most towns and cities and a surprising amount in rural areas. A great deal of research has now been done to prove there are many benefits to health for meditation practices, even being recognised by researchers at Harvard University.

You can view examples of the research both here and here.

Although their focuses and styles vary, of the conclusions there is no doubt, Meditation done on a regular basis IS beneficial for your health on a number of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels and you can choose to engage a practice on any or all of those levels and it will benefit you.

Our vision for this Meditation day has several levels

  • To demonstrate and promote meditation and contemplation for its health benefits.

  • To encourage practice on a regular basis to help raise the health and well being of the the town and its people.

  • To show that there are a wide range of providers and approaches to meditating in Shrewsbury, all of which have value.

  • To create a greater degree of connection between all the providers and forms of meditation and contemplation in Shrewsbury on account of their commonalities and shared purpose.

  • To raise funds for the chosen charities of the event; Midlands Air Ambulance and Severn Hospice.

Throughout the day you will find us in the market square for this event so that we are able to have a co-ordination point, informing and directing the people of the town to all the various events taking place on this day as well as for all our demonstrations and flash meditations taking place from 10am-4pm.

Check back to this blog as the details of the day evolve, they will also be found here and on our Facebook events, where you can state your intention to attend and share the event to others and on the Centre's Event page.

Please leave any comments and suggestions or contact us if you are an organisation or a business and would like to get involved.

And above all, please share this event so that together we can actively raise the health and well being of the entire town on this day while raising money for Severn Hospice and Midlands Air Ambulance. Thank you
