Massage & Manual Soft Tissue Therapy

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy with essential oils (highly concentrated plant oils) added to the massage oil or lotion. Inhaling essential oils through the nose is thought to promote beneficial changes in the mind and body by affecting the limbic system (a region of the brain known to influence the nervous system). Essential oils are also absorbed through the skin, offering a number of beneficial properties to the health of the user. Each essential oil used in aromatherapy has different properties. For example, some calm while others energize. Your aromatherapist will blend oils for you specific to your state of mind and aims for the session and can be tailored to support any current health issues you are having.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage; it includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (a form of connective tissue that lines and ensheathes the other soft tissues). Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury. Sports Massage is not solely for athletes. It can be highly beneficial in preparation for exercise and flushing and stretching the muscles following but anyone who feels the need for invigoration and rejuvenation can benefit from it. E.g. Desk based professionals where stiffness and general aches and pains can set in.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage therapy is the best-known type of bodywork performed today. One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension. Additional Swedish massage techniques include circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, percussion-like tapping, bending and stretching. Before and during your Swedish massage session, communication is encouraged with your professional massage therapist so that your massage is customized to your specific needs.
